Question Tag

Question tag หรือ tag question หรือ tail question เป็นวิธีการถามหรือสร้างคำถามโดยใช้ประโยคส่วนที่สองที่เรียกว่า tag  ส่วนมากเป็นรูปแบบประโยคที่ใช้ในภาษาพูด (colloquial spoken) มากกว่าภาษาที่เป็นภาษาเขียนแบบทางการ (formal writing) โดยเป็นการ ทำให้ประโยค สุภาพขึ้น (politenes)  หรือเป็นการเน้นประโยค (emphasis) ก็ได้ หรือบางทีก็เป็นการประชดประชัน (irony) หรืออาจจะเป็นการขอการยืนยัน (confirmation)

โดยจะแบ่งเป็นประโยคออกเป็นสองส่วนคือ ส่วนหน้า (sentence)  และ ส่วนหลัง (tag) โดยใช้ comma (,) เป็นตัวแบ่ง โดยมีโครงสร้างดังต่อไปนี้

การทำ tag question  สิ่งที่ต้องใช้ กริยาช่วย (helping verbs/auxiliary verbs) มาช่วยในส่วนของ tag ถ้าไม่มี ให้ใช้ verb to do และในส่วนของ  tag  ประธานต้องอยู่ในรูป subjective pronouns หรือคำสรรพนาม ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานของประโยค (he, she it, I, you, we, they)
Helping Verbs/Auxiliary Verbs
verb to be (am, are, is, was, were, be, being, been)
verb to have (have, has, had)
verb to do (do, does, did)
will, would
can, could
shall, should
may, must, might
used to, ought to

Note:

• Word with a negative meaning เมื่อเจอคำเหล่านี้ (no , not , none , neither , nobody , nothing, never , few , little , hardly , seldom , scarcely , rarely) ในส่วนแรกของประโยค จะมีความหมายเป็น negative และ จะอยู่ในรูปของ negative sentence
• • Nobody is perfect, is he?
  • You have no money with you, have you?
• ถ้าประธานเป็น everybody , everyone , someone , somebody คำสรรพนาม ในส่วนของ tag จะใช้คำว่า they
• • Some one has eaten my meal, hasn't they?
  • Everyone needs to finish it now, don't they?
• ถ้าประโยคเป็นประโยคคำสั่ง ขอร้อง หรือ ขออนุญาติ  tag ต้องใช้ will หรือ won't ตามด้วยคำสรรพนาม
• • Let him go home, won't you?
  • Don't talk in the class, will you?
  • Stop following me, won't you?
• ถ้าประโยคเป็นประโยคชักชวน ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย let's (let us), ในส่วนของ tag ต้องใช้  shall 
• • Let's not talk in the class, shan't we?
• กริยาช่วย used to ที่แปลว่า เคย ในส่วนของ tag ต้องใช้ did/din't 
• • Jane used to work with this company, didn't she?
• กริยา be used to แปลว่าคุ้นเคย ในส่วนของ tag ต้องใช้ verb to be  
• • Wimol isn't used to cooking with this utensil, is he?
• am เมื่อเป็น negative  เปลี่ยนรูปเป็น aren't

ตัวอย่าง

You're not coming with us, are you?
คุณจะไม่มากับเราใช่ใหม๊

Jimmy and his friends will join the group, won't they?
จิมมี่กับเพื่อจะเข้าร่วมกลุ่ม ใช่ใหม๊

He's read this book, hasn't he?
เขาได้อ่านหนังสือเล่มนี้ ใช่ใหม๊

He's reading this book, isn't he?
เขากำลังอ่านหนังสือเล่มนี้ ใช่ใหม๊

He read this book, didn't he?
เขาอ่านหนังสือเล่มนี้แล้ว  ใช่ใหม๊

John won't go to see the doctor tomorrow, will he?
จอนจะไม่ไปพบคุณหมอพรุ้งนี้ ใช่ใหม๊

Jane needed to talk with the doctor, didn't she?
เจนต้องคุยกับคุณมา ใช่ใหม๊

We mustn't go to bed late, must we?
เราต้องไม่เข้านอนดึก ใช่ใหม๊

Mary and John are going to get married this month, aren't they?
แมรี่กะจอน กำลังจะแต่งงานเดือนนี้ ใช่ก่อ

Those giraffes doesn't eat meat, do they?
จีราฟพวกนั้นไม่กินเนื่อ แม่นบ่

There aren't any apple left on the table, are there?
ไม่มีแอฟเปิลเหลือบนโตีะเลย ใช่ใหม๊

Jame has never been to England, has he?
เจมไม่เคยไปประเทศอังกฤษเลย ใช่ใหม๊
