Word Usage: Words that we use to describe crime

Vocabularies that are used to describe crime 

Crime is an illegal action, which can be punished by law. When talking about crime there are some vocabularies that involve crime. When a person commit crime there are words that describe those action and there are also words that call the person who commits those crime.
Below are the list of them categorised by action and person of the crime.

An Action of Stealing
Here are the words we describe an action of crime in different type of stealing.
  • robbery
    the action of robbing a person or place
  • burglary
    illegal entry of a building with intent to commit a crime, especially theft
  • theft
    the action or crime of stealing
  • shoplifting
    the action of stealing goods from a shop while pretending to be a customer
  • fraud
    wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain
  • carjacking
    the action of violently stealing an occupied car


An Action of Attacking People 
Here are the words we describe an action of each type of attacking people.
  • assault = the crime of physically attacking someone.
  • mugging
    an act of attacking and robbing someone in a public place
  • murder
    the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.
  • rape
    the crime, typically committed by a man, of forcing another person to have sexual intercourse with the offender against their will


Person of Crime.
Here are the words we call a person who commits each crime:
  • criminal
    a person who commits crime.
  • thief
    a person who steals another person's property.
  • crook
    crook is another name for criminal.
  • burglar
    a person who commits burglary.
  • mugger
    a person who attacks and robs someone in a public place.
  • robber
    a person who rob a person or place.
  • pickpocket
    a person who steals from people's pockets
  • rapist
    a person who forces another person to have sexual intercourse with the offender against their will
  • offender
    a person who commits an illegal act, does something wrong or causes problems 
  • lawbreaker
     person who breaks the law.
  • crime
    an action or omission which constitutes an offence and is punishable by law
  • murderer
    a person who kill
