    1. What were you done doing at 7 o’clock last night?
    2. A lot of wild animals were are slaughtered by hunters ever year.
    3. The girls were playing tennis when it has begun begun to rain.
    4. Next year you had (will) have to be more economical than this year.
    5. At five tomorrow she will sing be singing at the Crown hotel.

      [:------------------ ru-eng1002.blogspot.com  -----------------:]

Here are the explanation on those correction:
      1. What were you done at 7 o’clock last night?  X
Correction: What were you doing at 7 o’clock last night?.
Explanation: "at 7 o’clock last night" is the key phrase here. Last night is the key phrase for past simple tense, but at 7 o'clock make it more specific and it has to go in past continuous tense.
Reference: Chapter 4 Past Continuous Tense
      2. A lot of wild animals were slaughtered by hunters ever year.  X
Correction: A lot of wild animals are slaughtered by hunters ever year.
Explanation:  In this question, every year is the key phrase of the action that happens regularly but in every year. So it has to be in present simple tense.
Reference: Chapter 1 Present Simple Tense
      3. The girls were playing tennis when it has begun to rain.  X
Correction: The girls were playing tennis when it begun to rain..
Explanation: In this question, there are 2 events involved. The first action was happening and the the second one interrupted. The girls were playing tennis and then the it rained. This has to be in not other structure but past continue tense.
Reference: Chapter 4 Past Continuous Tense
      4. Next year you had to be more economical than this year. X
Correction: Next year you (will) have to be more economical than this year.
ExplanationNext year plays as the key phrase in this question and it tells us that this is in the future. The structure that fit this scenario is either present simple tense or future simple tense. In this context, Present Simple can also be applied as it must be happening in the future. As well as Future Simple Tense, it also can go with this sentence too.
Reference: Chapter 1 Present Simple Tense | Chapter 7 Future Simple Tense
      5. At five tomorrow she will sing at the Crown hotel. X
Correction: At five tomorrow she will be singing at the Crown hotel.
Explanation: At five tomorrow is now the key phrase here, and it tells us that a girl is is going to be singing at the very specific time, that is at five o'clock tomorrow. This has something to do with nothing but Future Continuous Tense. This scenario is similar to question #1 specific time, but in the future.
Reference: Chapter 7 Future Continuous Tense
As always, after the answer to the previous exercise of WWW we also will also have next exercise for you. And below is the next exercise of WWW (What Went Wrong), exercise number 8.

      5. Those who are doing have done their examination already can go out.

      [:------------------ ru-eng1002.blogspot.com  -----------------:]

Here are the explanation on those correction:
      1. Since 1960, my family will to Bangkok  X
Correction: Since 1960, my family have moved to Bangkok.
Explanation: "Since" is the keyword that is found in perfect tense. Will is not correct in this sentence. Also, the main verb is missing here, we can also put have been instead of have moved
Reference: Chapter 5 Present Perfect Tense
      2. It had rained when she went out.  X
Correction: It was raining when she went out.
Explanation:  In this question, there are 2 events. The first action was happening and the the second one interrupted.
Reference: Chapter 4 Past Continuous Tense
      3. I has studied singing for 6 months.  X
Correction: I have studied singing for 6 months.
Explanation: Like the first question, "for" is the keyword that is found in perfect tense. But the problem here is different, what went wrong here is verb to have "has". I does not agree with has, it has to go with have.
Reference: Chapter 5 Present Perfect Tense
      4. Last time that I see him, he looks quite happy. X
Correction: Last time that I saw him, he looked quite happy.
Explanation:  The keyword here is "last time" and we use it with past tense. The problem in this question is verb to see and to look, they need t be changed to past tense from saw and looked.
Reference: Chapter 2 Past Simple Tense
      5. Those who are doing their examination already can go out. X
Correction: Those who have done their examination already can go out.
Explanation: Already is the keyword here, and it can also be found in perfect tense structure.  Also, "are doing" does not fit here in this sentence. How could you be doing something and then go out? it does not quite make sense.
Reference: Chapter 5 Present Perfect Tense
As usual, after the answer to the previous exercise of WWW we also will bring you the next lesson. And below is the next lesson of WWW (What Went Wrong), lesson number 8.

      [:-$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$  What Went Wrong #5 - Correction  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$-:]

I have just requested (1) for the access to the university network. The admin said that (2) he would take it would take (him) 5 days to complete the request. After (3) finishing the request, he will notify me via an email. I (4) don't am not sure why it must take him this long but all I could (5) said say to him was "don't (6) be worry, please take your time".

      [:------------------ ru-eng1002.blogspot.com  -----------------:]

Here are the explanation on those correction:
      1. I have just requested for the access to the university network?  X
Correction: I have just requested the access to the university network.
Explanation:  Request is transitive verb, there is no preposition right after it. To to correct this sentence we just need to remove the proposition "for". The usage of request are:

        request something from someone
You don't need to ask permission (from me) to enter this house.
        request someone to do something
He requested the admin to give him more priviledge to the website.
        request that + clause
The admin requested that we use our priviledge with caution.

      2. The admin said that he would take 5 days  X
Correction: The admin said that it would take (him) 5 days
Explanation:  When we use the word take, one of the common form is "it takes (someone) + duration + to do something ". For example "it takes 3 days to get the approval for a passport request."

      3. After finish the request, he will notify me via an email.  X
Correction: After finishing the request, he will notify me via an email.
Explanation: Verbs the come immediately after proposition always need to be in gerund form (V+ing). After finishing something, looking forward to seeing you. Before going to bed....

      4. I don't sure why it must take him this long  X
Correction: I am not sure why it must take him this long.
Explanation:  sure is adjective not verb so verb to do is not appropriate here.

      5. all I could said to him was.  X
Correction: all I could say to him was
Explanation:  Verbs that come after the following helping verb need to be in infinitive form (V1):
        will/would = I will tell him.
can/could = He could say that again.
may/might = You may leave now.
have/has to = I have to go now.
need to  =  He needs to take the bus.
shall/should =  I shall talk with him now.
ought to = You ought to go with me.
must = I must have left it somewhere in the bed room.

      6. don't be worry, please take your time  X
Correction: don't worry, please take your time.
Explanation: This is opposite to number 4, worry is verb not adjective. Verb to be is not needed here.
And here we are, the 6th WWW (What Went Wrong).
Can you detect the errors in this exercise?. Answers to the exercise will be provided as usual in the next exercise.

      3. what kind of book are you interested?.  X
Correction: what kind of book are you interested in
Explanation: interested also follow with in, even in the question form we still need to add in at the end of the sentence.
      4. Reading is the cheapest way to travel but......  X
Correction: Reading is the cheapest way to travel and....

      What Went Wrong - #3

Hi again, welcome to the third post of WWW (What Went Wrong).

Did you happen to see what went wrong with the last conversation? I believe you did. Below are the corrections on those conversations in the last post.
Let see if we could spot the same error and let see if you can correct them.

      [:-$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$  What Went Wrong #2 - Correction  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$-:]

Hi guys, I am Mitty. I've just started (1) to post posting my article in WWW. I am based in Bangkok, in other word, I live in Bangkok. Can you tell me (2) where is (what) your location (is)?

I started learning English when I (3) am was 11 years old (grade 5). It was a bit late comparing to the children these days. Back then, I was in the countryside far away from Bangkok. Yes, you may say I (4) am was a country man, a man who was in the countryside.

Could you please help me to correct my (5) written writing? Thank you very much.

      [:------------------ ru-eng1002.blogspot.com  -----------------:]

Here are the explanation on those correction:
      1. I've started to post my article in WWW?  X
Correction: I've started posting my article in WWW.
Explanation:  When we use start followed by verb to talk about the past,  verb form need to be in gerund form (V1+ing).
        Reference: ENG1001 Summary.
      2. Can you tell me where is your location  X
Correction: Can you tell me your location? or Can you tell me what your location is?
Explanation:  We use the word location with what not where. From the exercise, "where is" seems to be extra words which could be left out. When we use indirect question the word order have to be in a normal positive sentence. For example, "What is your school location?" when turning to indirect question would be "Could you tell me what your school location is?".
      3. I started learning English when I am 11 years old.  X
Correction: I started learning English when I was 11 years old.
Explanation: When we talk about something in the past, it needed to be in Past Tense structure. An observation - the sentence begins with "started" the other verb needs to agree with this.
      4. Yes, you may say I am a country man.  X
Correction: Yes, you may say I was a country man.
Explanation: The same explanation as in #3.
      5. Could you please help me to correct my written?X
Correction: Could you please help me to correct my writing?.
Explanation: My is progressive pronoun needs to follow by noun (writing) or phrase only. "written" is adj and also past participle (V3).  We can also put the sentence like this to correct the sentence "Could you please help me to correct my written article.".
Please share with us what your answer is.

And now it's time for the 3rd WWW (What Went Wrong).
What do you think went wrong with these sentences?
Let see if you can find them out.  Answer will be given later in the next WWW.

      Past Perfect Continuous Usage:
We use past perfect continuous to talk about events in the past that lasted for some time and happened before another event in the past. We also us past perfect continuous to talk about the cause and effect.

      เราใช้  past perfect อธิบายเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต ซึ่งเหตุการณ์นั้นเกิดขึ้นและดำเนินไปเป็นเป็นเวลาช่วงหนึ่ง ก่อนที่อีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งจะเกิดขึ้น (ในอดีตเช่นกัน)
      1. Express the events that happened in the past: บอกเล่าเกี่ยวกับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดในอดีต
In this first case we use past perfect continuous to talk about long actions in the past which happened before another event. This usage is similar to Past Perfect but only Past Perfect Continuous takes longer period of time.

        ในกรณีนี้ เราใช้อธิบายเหตุการณ์ต่างๆคล้ายๆกับ Past Perfect เพียงแต่ Past Perfect Continuous จะเกิดขึ้นแล้วก็ดำเนินอยู่เป็นเวลาที่นานกว่า

        Examples:
I had been sleeping for 5 hours when I suddenly heard the sound of the breaking glass.
The boat had been sinking for 4 hours when the life boat arrived.
By the time the life boat arrived, the boat had been sinking for 4 hours.
Before she had something to eat, she had been waiting for 3 hours.

      2. Show clause and effect  อธิบายเหตุและผล

        Examples:
Mike was existed because I had been earning a lot of money.
Justine was angry with Cynthia because she had been teasing her all day.

      What Went Wrong - #2

Hi again, This is my second post on WWW (What Went Wrong).

Did you happen to see what went wrong with the first WWW (What Went Wrong)? I believe you did, and here are the corrections on those conversations.
Let see if we could spot the same error and let see if you can correct them.

      [:-$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$  What Went Wrong #1 - Correction  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$-:]

Jake: Hi, John. How're you been doing today?

John: Morning Jake, I am doing ok. Where did you went go on the weekend?

Jake: I went to Pattaya. What about you?

John: I just went back to Phuket.

      [:------------------ ru-eng1002.blogspot.com  -----------------:]

Here are the explanation on those correction:
      1. How're you been doing today?  X
        Correction: How're you doing today?
Explanation:  The question "how are you doing today" is the same as "how are you today?".  "How have you been doing?" can also be used if you have not see that person in some period of time, but then the answer to these question have to be in the same tense form.
      2. Where did you went on the weekend?  X
Correction: Where did you go on/during the weekend?
Explanation:  When asking question in the past we will add verb to do to make question and verb needs to be V1.
        Reference: Past Simple Tense.
      3. I just went back to Phuket.  X
Correction: I went to Phuket. (or I just came back from Phuket).
      4. Jonh.  X
        Correction: John

Hi guys, I am Mitty. I've just started to post my article in WWW. I am based in Bangkok, in other word, I live in Bangkok. Can you tell me where is your location?

I started learning English when I am 11 years old (grade 5). It was a bit late comparing to the children these days. Back then, I was in the countryside far away from Bangkok. Yes, you may say I am a country man, a man who was in the countryside.

Could you please help me to correct my written? Thank you very much.
